Outreach Support Assistant x 6 – Grade 8, £32,597‑£36,363 – Permanent, full time. Required to start ASAP.
We are seeking to appoint to the Secondary Outreach team, part of The Woodlands, 6 additional Outreach Support Workers.
The postholder will be supporting a cluster of schools mainly attached to one geographical area but will be required to travel to the other areas if needed. The postholders will be based in The Elms, Ferryhill and will work across the county supporting schools, with pupils who have been referred to Outreach via the Behaviour and Inclusion Panels.
The ideal person for this role would benefit from previous experience of working with challenging behaviours, delivering a range of interventions and communicating effectively with stakeholders.
Outline of Role
The Woodlands is the local authority provision for pupils who are excluded from school, for pupils who are at risk of exclusion and also for pupils who cannot attend school because of health reasons.
The post holder will work under the guidance of senior staff and within an agreed framework of supervision to deliver planned programmes of support to individuals and small groups across all key stages, both within and outside the classroom, in secondary schools across County Durham.
The role will involve supporting pupils who require targeted or specialist intervention in specific areas and contributing to the school’s provision of bespoke support for identified students.
The post holder will deliver one‑to‑one and small group interventions designed to re‑engage young people with school life and learning, helping to promote positive participation in education.
Staff will need access to transport to travel between school settings across County Durham, mileage will be payable in line with Council policy.
The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.

Term time only plus two additional weeks’ pay is calculated on the basis of the following
* Number of ‘teaching’ weeks – 38 weeks; plus
* Public (bank) holidays – 1.6 weeks (8 days); plus
* Two additional weeks, inclusive of CPD – 2 weeks; plus
* Individual leave entitlement - 5.4 weeks (27 days) or 6.4 weeks (32 days)
Individual leave entitlement is calculated on the length of continuous service. Employees with less than 5 years’ service will receive 27 days annual leave. Employees with more than 5 years’ service will receive 32 days annual leave. For example:
Calculation for employees with less than 5 years’ service: 40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 47 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments.
Calculation for employees with more than 5 years’ service: 40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 48 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments.
