About Us

It is an exciting time to join Lambeth Council. We have bold ambitions for the future of Lambeth’s communities and residents through our Lambeth 2030 Plan. About the Borough

Located in the heart of South London, Lambeth is a diverse and vibrant community. We offer a dynamic environment with strong partnerships and opportunities to contribute to resident services.

With excellent local amenities and services, Lambeth provides a supportive setting for staff development and progression.

About the Role

We’re looking for a motivated, dynamic, enthusiastic, and innovative Welfare Benefits Adviser to join our established Welfare Rights Team, ‘Every Pound Counts@’, providing benefit advice to ill and disabled vulnerable adults who cannot access benefits services in the community.

As part of a busy team of benefit advisers, you will be responsible for providing benefit checks and assisting with all stages of the benefit process. The role requires expertise in benefits, with an empathetic and patient approach, as many of our clients have serious health issues and may require home visits. This is a core element of our service. The role involves partnership working as many people are referred by statutory services.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

All About You

You will need an up-to-date extensive knowledge of welfare rights, benefits, rules, changes, and legislation. You will need to understand physical and mental health issues and how these affect an individual’s ability to claim and retain welfare benefits. You should be passionate about providing high-quality advice and able to work on your own initiative to manage a complex and diverse workload while also collaborating with others.

You will also need to show evidence of the following:

* Recent direct experience in giving detailed benefits advice and undertaking benefit checks, including knowledge of means-tested and non-means-tested benefits, disability benefits, and extensive knowledge of Universal Credit
* Excellent communication skills
* Experience of working to deadlines and providing high-quality written submissions for reviews

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

We especially encourage applications from people from Black, Asian and Multiethnic communities. Lambeth will utilise the positive action provisions of the Equality Act 2010 to appoint a candidate from underrepresented groups where there is a choice between two candidates of equal merit.
