Maintenance Assistant role at Hill Care, Whiteabbey Care Home, Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland. Ideally with a background in maintenance, painting and decorating or general trades experience, with the enthusiasm required to support our residents.
As part of the Maintenance team, you will promote excellent health and safety standards within and around the home to maintain a safe environment. Beaumont Care Homes aim to provide a safe, clean, relaxed and homely environment for residents, with a focus on care, wellbeing and comfort.

Responsibilities
* Responsible to the Home Manager for the upkeep of the Care Home and surrounding grounds, undertake planned maintenance to ensure excellent first impressions to all who visit.
* Ensure the smooth operation and serviceability of services such as heating, lighting, plumbing and non-medical equipment required for the safe and efficient operation of the Home.
* Maintain the home exterior including pathways and driveways; tend flowerbeds and plants; keep grassed areas tidy; ensure external lighting and signs are clear, visible and in good order.
* Identify and report maintenance defects; engage proactively with all stakeholders to ensure tasks inside and outside the site are carried out to a high standard.
* Undertake decorating, including painting and wallpapering, minor refurbishment and maintenance within the home.
* Provide out-of-hours emergency service by participating in the on-call rota and provide temporary cover for sister homes when required.
* Be suitably trained to act as an active Fire Warden and stay up to date with policy and procedures; induct new staff as required.
* Assemble/install new equipment or goods delivered to the home.
* Assist with fire and water risk assessments and reviews; carry out plumbing, joinery and general building repairs to a good standard.
* Maintain the company vehicle and carry out basic safety checks.
* Work unsupervised when needed and promote independence and lifestyle opportunities for older people.
* Carry out fault finding and basic repairs to equipment (e.g., catering and laundering machines).
Qualifications and Qualities
* Background in maintenance, painting and decorating or general trades is preferred.
* Enthusiasm to support residents and uphold high care standards.
* Willingness to work as part of a team and to take on-call responsibilities as required.
* Able to work without supervision and to engage with stakeholders effectively.
* Confident in fault finding and basic repairs to equipment.
