Role
My client is seeking an experienced Manual Machinist knowledge to join a busy and growing machine shop. The role involves setting up, operating, and maintaining manual machines to produce precision-engineered components. Working from technical drawings, blueprints, and job instructions, the machinist will ensure that all parts are produced accurately, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Operating and setting up manual lathes, mills, and related machinery.
* Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and job instructions.
* Performing accurate machining operations, ensuring all work meets required tolerances.
* Using precision measuring equipment (e.g., micrometres, callipers, gauges) to inspect components.
* Monitoring machine performance and making adjustments to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
* Maintaining accurate records of production activity.
* Supporting continuous improvement and working with colleagues to resolve technical challenges.
* Keeping the workshop clean, safe, and well organised.
* Assisting in training or supporting less experienced team members when required.
* Experience with EDM/Wire machines would be an advantage.
The Candidate
* Skilled in manual machining (mills and lathes).
* Able to read and work confidently from engineering drawings.
* Basic understanding of CNC lathe operation.
* Confident in the use of precision measuring instruments.
* Good literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving skills.
* Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
* Previous experience in a workshop or precision engineering environment is essential.
