Roles: Resident Engineer in Mechanical, Electrical Disciplines.

Location; Port of Nigg, Scotland

Reporting to: Engineering Manager


As a Resident Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the construction and maintenance of the civil, mechanical or electrical infrastructure and structural elements of a Subsea Cable Factory Project in the Port of Nigg.


You will serve as the primary point of contact between contractors, project stakeholders, and engineering teams, ensuring that construction activities adhere to design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities Outline:

1. Construction Oversight: to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and quality standards.

2. Quality Assurance: Conduct regular inspections and quality control checks to verify the quality and integrity of construction work, identifying and addressing deviations or deficiencies as necessary.

3. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of construction activities, including daily logs, progress reports, and as-built drawings, and communicate project status updates to stakeholders and management as required.

4. Technical Support: Provide technical expertise and guidance to construction teams, resolving engineering-related issues, interpreting design specifications, and facilitating the resolution of construction challenges.

5. Stakeholder Communication: Serve as a liaison between project stakeholders, including clients, consultants, regulatory agencies, and community representatives, fostering positive relationships, and addressing concerns or inquiries promptly and professionally.

6. Change Management: Manage changes to project scope, schedule, and budget, evaluating proposed modifications, assessing their impact on project objectives, and facilitating decision-making processes in collaboration with project stakeholders.

7.Team communication- Ensure a constant detailed line of communication with Design team.

Educational Requirements

* Bachelor's Degree in the relevant field (Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering). Most positions require at least a bachelor's degree, while a Master’s Degree can be advantageous.
* Accreditation from recognized programs is typically preferred.

2. Professional Licensing and Certification

* Professional Engineer (PE) license or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is preferred
* Safety Certifications, such as OSHA for construction or NEBOSH for international safety standards

3. Experience

* Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in the specific engineering discipline, with a strong background in site supervision and project management.
* Field Experience is essential, particularly with large-scale projects such as infrastructure (for civil engineers), manufacturing plants (for mechanical engineers), or electrical distribution (for electrical engineers).
* Proven expertise in quality assurance, inspection processes, and compliance with building codes is crucial.

4. Technical Skills

* Knowledge of Site Management Software: Familiarity with project management and site supervision tools
* Proficiency in Relevant Codes and Standards: Resident engineers must be well-versed in codes relevant to their engineering discipline, such as Eurocode for civil engineers, ASME standards for mechanical engineers, and IEC standards for electrical engineers.
* Structural Analysis & Design Skills (for civil engineering) or HVAC and Plumbing Systems expertise (for mechanical engineering), or Power Systems and Distribution knowledge (for electrical engineering).

5. Key Competencies

* Leadership and Communication Skills.
* Problem-Solving Abilities: As issues arise during construction, resident engineers must be able to quickly assess and respond with effective solutions.
* Attention to Detail: Essential for ensuring project specifications and safety requirements are met on the construction site.
