McLaughlin & Harvey is one of the leading Civil Engineering and Building Contractors operating throughout the UK and Ireland. We are seeking to recruit an Estimator to join our Civil Engineering Pre-Construction team based at our office in Mallusk. The Civil Engineering department undertakes a wide range of varied projects with values ranging from £5m to £150m. Responsibilities Reporting to the Estimating Director, the successful candidate will work within an existing estimating team and alongside submissions and technical teams on the preparation of competitive tenders. As an Estimator you will be responsible for the following: Be prepared and motivated to fulfil the role of Senior Estimator on tenders, managing all estimating elements including interface with supply chain, clients and across internal McL&H commercial and operations/ delivery functions Demonstrate strong experience of estimating large scale >£50m/ complex tenders Assist with Business Development activities in developing new Clients and opportunities whilst maintaining existing Client relationships Produce robust estimates/ cost plans/ budgets from concept plans and specifications to aid Client business cases A track record of working on winning tenders that have delivered successful & profitable contracts Lead the estimating function on Design & Build tenders, including identification of contractor design elements, engagement of designers and management of designers Have the ability to work on multiple tenders/ budget costs at any one time Lead estimating input and present within internal start-up, mid tender & finalisation meetings Work collaboratively within the wider tender team providing input on quality and technical issues in order to deliver a successful submission Take ownership of the compilation of all tender costs within Conquest and the Tender Workbook Demonstrate the ability to undertake supply chain quotation review, analysis, comparisons and recommendations Demonstrate the ability to price works from first principles Understand the logic of and provide input to the compilation of a programme of works whilst being able to develop programming skills within Asta Powerproject (or similar) programming software Demonstrate the ability to lead and manage a tender estimating team (Estimator/ Assistant Estimator) Demonstrate the ability to assist in the development of junior team members (Estimator/ Assistant Estimator) Qualifications & Experience Essential Experience in estimating/ commercial/ procurement roles for Construction or Civil Engineering projects Time management and prioritising workload Ability to work on own initiative Team player Strong written and oral communication skills Strong presentation skills, high proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Desirable 3rd or degree level qualification ideally within a Construction or Engineering related discipline What's in it for you?
