Applications are invited for Prize fellowships in the Hintze Centre for Astrophysical Surveys. The Department of Physics invites applications for up to three prestigious fellowships in the University of Oxford’s Hintze Centre for Astrophysical Surveys. Funded through the Hintze Family Charitable Foundation, the Centre is focused on the exploitation of current surveys to exploit Oxford’s participation in major UK astronomy projects: Rubin and LSST, Euclid, JWST, MeerKAT, LOFAR, SKA, ESO and the ELT. Applicants will lead personal research programmes relevant to the current interests of Oxford Astrophysics. The Hintze Centre’s themes are in observational cosmology, galaxy evolution, and astrophysical transients. The Fellows may be requested to assist with the supervision of graduate students, undergraduate tutorials and masters projects and outreach activities as requested by the Director of the Hintze Centre. Fellows will have the opportunity to teach and will benefit from a college association with Christ Church.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold or be close to obtaining a relevant PhD / DPhil in a relevant area of astronomy or astrophysics, and should have a demonstrated capacity for independent work. Candidates should be capable of initiating and leading research programmes in the sub-Department of Astrophysics at the University of Oxford. Excellent communication skills and a proven track record of research in cosmology, galaxy evolution or astrophysical transients (including supernova for cosmology) would be essential.

You will also be asked to upload a CV (maximum three pages, including a publication list or a NASA ADS link) and a 3 page research proposal covering your vision for three years of fellowship funding (including figures and references, minimum font 11pt). Your application will be judged solely on the basis of how you demonstrate that you meet the selection criteria stated in the job description.
