SEND Support Assistant Location: Peterlee Working hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm Leader Education is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Assistant to join a welcoming SEND school that provides outstanding education and care for children and young people aged 2–19. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a specialist setting, supporting learners with additional needs as part of a nurturing and supportive team. You will play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, included and empowered to reach their full potential. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting children or young people—preferably within a SEND environment—and a strong understanding of inclusive practice. Excellent communication skills, patience, empathy and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential, along with a clear commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent), experience supporting pupils with autism or complex needs, knowledge of alternative communication methods such as PECS or Makaton, and training in safeguarding, first aid or behaviour support would be advantageous.
