Overview
Operations Assistant (5776) at Prifysgol Aberystwyth University – Aberystwyth Arts Centre. Permanent, full-time role (36.5 hours per week) with evening and weekend work on a rota basis. Salary: £23,914.80. Employment Visa: Non-sponsorable.
Location and context: Aberystwyth Arts Centre is a dynamic venue hosting a wide programme and welcoming around 650,000 visitors annually. The Operations and Planning Team supports event delivery, visitor safety and comfort, and overall venue operations.
Responsibilities
* To work closely and take instruction from the Operations Team Leader to ensure the smooth running of events within the Centre.
* Set up staging and retractable seating, move furniture and equipment, and lay out tables and chairs for meetings, performances and events (physically demanding).
* Clean designated areas to maintain presentability and hygiene using commercial equipment.
* Provide support for life safety systems, including weekly fire alarm testing and assisting with passenger release from lifts or other emergencies as required.
* Use initiative in the absence of the Operations Team Leader; assist the general public, visiting companies and hirers.
* Follow and support delivery of Health and Safety and fire regulations; monitor the fire alarm system and aid evacuation procedures.
* Report maintenance faults in the absence of the Operations Team Leader; record lost property on receipt.
* Conduct pre-show checks to ensure public spaces are safe and ready to open.
* Act as Duty Porter: secure the building by locking/unlocking and setting intruder/fire alarms, and assist with transportation of equipment using University vehicles.
* Undertake health and safety duties appropriate to the post and support Welsh-language provisions where applicable.

* Any other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade of the role.
Essential qualifications, experience and skills
* Full valid UK driving licence, or equivalent right to drive in the UK.
* Excellent communication and customer service skills.
* Flexibility to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends on a rota basis.
* Understanding of Health and Safety in a public building; experience cleaning in a public-facing environment.
* A basic IT understanding to support setting up equipment for events/workshops (screens, laptops, etc.).
* Awareness of bilingual environment and Welsh language procedures; Oral (spoken) and Written Welsh Level A1 or evidence of commitment to learn Welsh to this level.
Desirable qualifications
* First Aid, Manual Handling, COSHH qualifications; Security Industry Authority Licence.
* Basic maintenance experience; Welsh language Level B1.
