About the role
Balfour Beatty has created iconic buildings and infrastructure worldwide over the past 115 years, redefining excellence and setting industry standards with every project.
In collaboration with several consortium partners, Balfour Beatty has been selected by BP (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage. This project is a key initiative to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Quantity Surveyor with several years of experience managing all costs and income related to building and civil engineering projects to support the Net Zero Teesside project at our new site in Redcar.
What you’ll be doing
* Utilising the company’s ERP and digital systems.
* Ordering information and systematically verifying data.
* Measuring, recording, and valuing work independently in accordance with established procedures.
* Preparing cost reconciliation statements.
* Measuring and interpreting work information, specifications, and drawings; preparing bills of quantities and schedules of rates.
* Developing estimates from first principles, including net and gross estimates.
* Measuring works and negotiating with subcontractors.
* Reviewing weekly and monthly work programmes.
* Planning commercial activities to meet section programme requirements.
* Compiling cost and value information.
* Understanding customer contracts and managing stakeholder relationships within your area.
* Understanding delay and disruption programmes.

* Proficiency in financial control procedures.
* Ability to value variations using existing information.
* Understanding of contract programmes encompassing the entire scope of work.
* Ability to analyze various options and implications.
* Knowledge of construction programmes.
* Solid understanding of various forms of civil engineering contracts.
* Experience with contract structures and documentation.
