Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision (SEMH & SEN Support)

Location: Enfield

Contract: Full-time, term-time only

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people who need it most?

Do you have the patience, resilience, and empathy to support children who have faced significant challenges in their lives?

We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our alternative provision, supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN). Our pupils have been excluded or removed from mainstream school due to a variety of factors, often linked to experiences of severe trauma and abuse.

This role is more than classroom support – it is about caring, guiding, and role-modelling positive behaviours to help young people believe in themselves again. You will be someone who can see beyond the behaviour and help rebuild trust, showing our pupils that they matter and that their future is worth investing in.

What You'll Be Doing:

* Building strong, positive, and trusting relationships with pupils who have complex needs.
* Supporting teachers in creating safe, structured, and nurturing learning environments.
* Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour with patience, empathy, and professionalism.
* Encouraging personal growth, resilience, and independence in children who may struggle with trust and self-confidence.
* Working closely with staff, parents/carers, and external professionals to support individual learning and wellbeing plans.

What We're Looking For:

* Above all, a genuine desire to work with and support children who have faced significant barriers in life.
* Relationship Builders – able to connect with young people, even when they are most resistant to support.
* Resilience & Patience – calm, consistent, and professional under pressure.
* Positive Role Models – you set the example through your actions, language, and attitude.
* Open-Mindedness – experience is valuable, but not essential. What matters most is your drive, empathy, and willingness to learn and adapt.

Why Join Us?

* The chance to positively change young lives every single day.
* A supportive and passionate team who share your commitment to inclusive education.
* Ongoing training in trauma-informed practice, behaviour support, and SEN strategies.
* A role that is both challenging and deeply rewarding – where no two days are the same.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £98.00-£105.00 per day
