Do you have farming in your blood and aspire to a career in Agri-business management? We are seeking an all-rounder with strong arable farm experience, crop nutrition knowledge, and a good head for business.
If you are a problem solver, a forward thinker, and eager to grow into a role, this family-run business offers a clear career pathway within a large and diversifying AD unit in the West Midlands. Due to doubling production of digestate, the business is looking to invest in a trainee to support the Operations Manager.
You will be mentored by the current Operations Manager, the Compliance Manager, and the Farm Manager across all aspects of the business. The role will involve understanding the bio-energy process, complying with environmental and energy regulations, lab sampling, and developing business partnerships within the regional farming community.
While prior knowledge of organic fertiliser is important, the successful candidate will benefit from a structured professional development programme, including funded qualifications (FACTS, WAMITAB), exposure to all business functions, and mentorship from senior leaders.
Responsibilities
1. Identifying potential new farming clients and building strong relationships.
2. Managing contracts with farmers for crop production and organic fertiliser application.
3. Assisting with lab sampling, government audits, and EA documentation.
4. Preparing financial reports and budgets; coordinating fertiliser spreading with managers, contractors, and the Environment Agency.
5. Recording digestate spread, maintaining NVZ plans, and staff training on fertiliser handling.
6. Removing organic fertiliser solids from the solid separation building and transporting them to the field.
7. Managing the spreading of organic fertiliser in liaison with general and operations managers, farm managers, contractors, and the Environment Agency.
8. Analyzing soil for fertiliser needs and inspecting crops for maturity and weather damage.
Qualifications and Skills
1. A degree in Agriculture or Biology is desirable.
2. Understanding of farming operations, priorities, and processes.
3. Technical fertiliser knowledge (FACTS not essential).
4. Computer literacy.
5. Commercial acumen and solid business principles.
6. Attention to detail.
7. Good communication skills.
8. Entrepreneurial mindset.
