The Role
We are seeking to appoint a skilled, compassionate and motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning, including leading learning activities and covering classes when required, while maintaining a strong focus on nurture, creativity and inclusion.
This role is ideal for an experienced practitioner who is confident working independently, values teamwork, and is passionate about supporting children’s academic progress alongside their emotional and social development.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan, deliver and evaluate learning activities for individuals, groups or whole classes in line with the Curriculum for Wales
• Lead classes during PPA, management time or short-term absence, under the direction of the class teacher or senior leadership
• Support pupils with a range of needs, including Additional Learning Needs (ALN), ensuring access to learning and wellbeing
• Create a nurturing environment where children feel safe, confident and listened to
• Champion the voice of the child in learning, behaviour and wellbeing
• Use creative and engaging approaches to support curiosity, independence and enjoyment of learning
• Support positive behaviour through relational and restorative approaches
• Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and external agencies
• Contribute to planning, assessment and feedback to support pupil progress
• Promote and uphold the Christian values and inclusive ethos of the school
• Contribute to the wider life of the school when appropriate
We are looking for someone who:
• Holds HLTA status
• Has substantial experience working in a primary school setting
• Is confident leading learning independently and working under their own initiative
• Demonstrates a strong nurturing approach and emotional literacy
• Values creativity, play and experiential learning
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Is flexible, reflective and committed to continuous professional development
• Works effectively as part of a caring and supportive team
• Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all pupils
• Has an understanding of, or willingness to support, the Christian ethos of a Church in Wales school
• Welsh language skills are desirable
