Overview

1 x 32.5 hours per week, worked over 7-day rota. The aim of the role is to support the clinical teams in maintaining the optimum environment for our patients. The main duties are to support patient movement, removal and disposal of waste, and handling of medical gases. The post holder is required to undertake routine portering activities, which are task driven and require a basic level of competence within a limited amount of time under the direction of the Patient Environment Services at One Lancashire and South Cumbria. These duties are in line with the National Cleaning Standards, department standing Operational Procedures and Trust Policies, to ensure timely and efficient patient movement while providing excellent levels of customer care.

You should be hard working, punctual and able to work on your own initiative or as part of a team.


Responsibilities

* Support patient movement, removal and disposal of waste, and handling of medical gases.
* Undertake routine portering activities as directed; perform tasks within a limited timeframe and with basic competence under supervision.
* Ensure work is carried out in line with National Cleaning Standards, department procedures and Trust policies.
* Deliver timely and efficient patient movement while maintaining high levels of customer care.


Qualifications

* Required: Driving Licence
* Required: Basic Numeracy and Literacy Skills
* Desirable: Certificate in Health and Safety
* Desirable: Previous operational manual handling experience
* Desirable: Knowledge of cleaning in a large setting or Health Care environment
* Desirable: Ability to deal with information sensitively and confidentially
* Desirable: Ability to interact with a diverse range of people face to face
* Desirable: Ability to communicate within a team and provide feedback to colleagues and line managers
* Desirable: Ability to demonstrate and address manual handling assessments on the safe transportation of light and medium items
* Desirable: Ability to travel between Trust sites as required
* Desirable: Flexibility in approach to work patterns
* Desirable: Ability to follow day-to-day workloads linked to hygiene procedures and written schedules
* Desirable: Ability to report equipment breakdowns and faults to supervisors
* Desirable: Ability to complete records including timesheets and other departmental documentation

Locations and Services

We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, along with community healthcare premises across Morecambe Bay.

* Please note the salary advertised is for full-time hours. If the post is less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro-rata. For Agenda for Change pay-scales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.
