Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse or AHP to lead the Mental Health Helpline for a period of 3 months to cover a secondment.

The post holder will operationally, clinically, and professionally advise and manage the Derbyshire Mental Health Helpline and Support Service a whole. Through strong leadership they will ensure evidence-based practice is delivered to improve the quality of and shape responsive services. The post holder will be responsible for establishing operational and service mechanisms that support safe high quality care throughout the hour period. The post holder will present a professional image to promote a positive image to service users, carers and the community as a whole.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be accountable for the direct delivery of the service for the Derbyshire Mental Health Helpline.

Represent your defined service area as required in the public domain and promote a positive image.

Maintain an up to date knowledge and awareness of NHS and Social Care developments, national, regional and local initiatives and any specific clinical developments.

Ensure that systems and processes exist to measure and deliver required national and local access, efficiency and other targets as specified by the Trust and wider NHS.

To act as a role model to provide high standards of professionalism representing Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in the exercise of their duties. Nurture a culture of respect for others and an environment that values and is respectful of ethnicity, gender, culture, experience and individuality for all staff and people in our care including carers, creating a positive working environment.

To provide leadership, direction and development to ensure that the skills and capabilities of the team are effectively utilised to maximise the potential of individuals.

Manage timely and effective recruitment and retention of staff.

Required to have developed problem solving and analytical skills in order to interpret performance and respond to clinical need, undertake audits of clinical caseloads and any audits required.

12. Demonstrate the ability to apply leadership/managerial theory.
13. The post holder will operationally manage the team and their direct reports.
14. The post holder will ensure that the team meets performance targets and where these are not met actions are in place to resolve this.
15. The post holder will support the ASM to ensure that the KPI’s of the team are being met and reported on and where necessary will ensure data is accurate and provided.
16. Demonstrate an understanding of and the ability to apply change management processes and theory to implement change within the Team.
17. Empower all team members to participate in implementing change by using problem solving, considering potential conflicts and planning resolution.
18. To be responsible for the recruitment and selection of new staff into the service including the organising of induction programmes.
19. To take responsibility for managing of the rosters to ensure safe cover is provided /7.
20. Proactively manage conflict within a multi-professional and multi-disciplinary team, ensuring the needs of service users are maintained whilst supporting team members.
21. Nurture a culture of respect for others, and an environment that values and is pro-actively respectful of ethnicity, gender, culture and individuality for service users and staff.
22. Ensure trust policies, procedures, and legislative directives are adhered to, Equal Opportunities, Human Rights Act, Disability Discrimination Act, Race Relations, Sex Discrimination etc.
23. Ensure service users/carers participate in developing and shaping the service where possible.
24. Ensure that awareness of clinical and resource management information is used analytically to inform decisions that meet service user, team and organisational objectives.
25. To manage a defined Team budget adhering to all Trust standing financial instructions.
26. Chair meetings as required, team meetings, interface meetings.
27. Post holder will ensure effective communication systems are in operation within the Team that support and enhance high quality care.
28. The post holder will take the lead in ensuring clinical and non-clinical risk management systems are operational within the clinical area, including Health & Safety at Work issues, lone working policies are adhered to.
29. Post holder will support the development of Improving Working Lives Initiatives.
30. The post holder will participate in the first on call system for Derbyshire Healthcare Foundation Trust.
31. The post holder will provide managerial supervision and appraisal reviews to all their direct reports, inclusive of the band 7 clinical leads working within that team.
32. The post holder will manage the team's sickness and absence and work with HR as required to support team members.
33. The post holder will receive management supervision from the Area Service Manager.
34. Post holder will ensure the Complaints Procedure is followed and will also be involved in leading investigations on behalf of the Trust.
35. Post holder may be asked to deputise for the Area Service Manager role during periods of annual/sick leave where considered professionally appropriate.
