Orion Group is working with a leading infrastructure and construction client to source a Civils Design Manager to join their UK Construction team in the North of Scotland.
As the Civils Design Manager, your core responsibilities will include:
* Supporting site-based Civils project teams and early civils-related stages of building projects.
* Implementing and managing the control of the design process to ensure the design and procurement of specialist packages meet project requirements within cost parameters.
* Supporting Work Winning/Project Delivery teams by providing design input and cost-effective solutions.
What you'll be doing
* Managing the development and implementation of design proposals, ensuring they meet customer requirements including budget constraints, and presenting proposals for approval. The design should deliver safety, quality, ease of maintenance, energy efficiency, minimal environmental impact, and innovation to meet customer goals and positively impact the local community.
* Managing and briefing the Design Team, including third parties or novated design teams, ensuring they meet all specifications and are competent and resourced appropriately.
* Providing advice on the 'buildability' of design proposals to the design and construction teams on all packages.
* Liaising with statutory bodies/authorities such as planning, building control, and services.
* Supporting Safety by Design & Engineering forums or similar, representing the business stream.
* Developing and managing the design deliverables programme, including schedule management, gate reviews, and progress reporting.
* Leading the implementation of BIM protocols, managing data sharing and collaboration.
* Coordinating with the supply chain regarding BIM requirements.
* Applying Lean construction techniques to save costs, reduce waste, and optimize construction.
Who we're looking for
* Experience in design consultancy or management within a main contracting environment.
* Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work in a matrix organization.
* Understanding of site activities and BIM processes.
* Professional membership with relevant institutes (e.g., ICE, IStructE).
* Valid CSCS card.
* Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and industry-standard design tools.

Additional considerations
Applicants ideally from the North East of Scotland, with flexibility for candidates from the Highland area, requiring in-office presence 2 days per week and on-site the remainder.
