Maintenance Technician (Electrical Bias / Multi-Skilled)
Salary: £46,116 (Inc. Shift Allowance) + Annual Bonus

About the Role:
A leading engineering company in Gateshead, specialising in the production for industrial applications, is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician with an electrical bias or multi-skilled background. The business operates in a dynamic, high-output heavy engineering environment and prides itself on achieving record-breaking results while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
The successful candidate will work within the Maintenance Department to maintain, install, and commission plant and equipment, contributing to both reactive and proactive maintenance programmes. This role requires a hands-on, proactive engineer with a “can-do” attitude, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work safely in a demanding industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Maintain plant and equipment, supporting installation and commissioning of new or upgraded machinery.
* Carry out both reactive (breakdown) and proactive (PPM, spares preparation) maintenance tasks.
* Troubleshoot and systematically identify root causes of equipment failures.
* Communicate effectively with colleagues and lead technicians, ensuring all work is documented.
* Adhere strictly to health & safety procedures, including permits, lock-offs, and safety systems.
* Work at height, operate lifting equipment, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
* Undertake training to expand skills and support development of other engineers.
Person Specification:
* Minimum ONC/OND/HND/HNC/NVQ III or equivalent in Electrical or Maintenance Engineering.
* Proven experience in heavy engineering electrical maintenance, fault-finding, and installation of AC/DC motors.
* Competent with single and three-phase electrical systems.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing priorities effectively.
* Willingness to work at height and in a physically demanding industrial environment.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
* Experience with a wide range of motors, drives, starters, PLCs, and HMIs.
* Knowledge of HV switching, pyrometry, and crane maintenance.
* 17th Edition electrical qualifications.
* Experience operating MEWPs and forklifts.
