Overview
The main focus of the role is to secure income for large-scale capital investment at Stanley Arts, alongside developing and maintaining relationships with statutory funders and trusts that may support programming and core running costs of the building. Funding bodies will include Arts Council England, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and other voluntary sources, predominantly trusts and foundations. The Development Manager will lead two key areas: 1) overseeing fundraising across trusts, foundations, statutory funders, corporate partners, and individual donors; 2) developing and delivering a major fundraising campaign to raise funds for a large-scale capital investment in Stanley Arts’ future. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Development Manager will shape the organisation’s strategic direction and ensure fundraising is embedded across the organisation.
They will lead on individual giving and donor development, alongside capital, trust, and foundation fundraising. Reporting to the Artistic Director/CEO, the Development Manager will line-manage and collaborate with the freelance Fundraiser, and work closely with the General Manager and Data & Insights Officer to ensure effective bid writing, relationship management, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and implementation of the organisation’s fundraising strategy across trusts, foundations, statutory funders, individual giving, and corporate partnerships.
* Design, launch, and manage a capital campaign to raise funds for a major redevelopment of Stanley Arts.
* Proactively conduct research into trusts, foundations, and individuals who could support Stanley Arts in the future.
* Build and deliver an individual giving strategy, cultivating and stewarding donors at all levels.
* Coordinate and prepare applications to major funders including Arts Council England, National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic England, and other trusts and foundations.
* Work collaboratively with the Marketing team to ensure fundraising activity is integrated into wider communications plans. Build and maintain relationships with funders, supporters, and stakeholders, ensuring strong stewardship and effective communication.
* Track, record, and manage all bids and income pipelines, ensuring deadlines and reporting requirements are met.
* Work with the General Manager and Data & Insights Officer to monitor, measure, and report on funded activity and outcomes.
* Contribute to bid writing for both revenue and capital fundraising.
* Lead meetings with the fundraising team, funding subgroup of the board, and wider staff team to monitor progress and share updates.
* Play a key role on the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to organisational strategy and decision-making.
* Lead on Fundraising Development Surgeries with local artists and practitioners and engage with initiatives to nurture artistic work within Stanley Arts’ local community.
* Demonstrate proven ability to develop and deliver successful fundraising strategies across trusts, foundations, statutory funders, corporate partners, and individual donors.
* Experience of capital fundraising campaigns and direct involvement in at least one small/medium capital project; experience of medium to large-scale project fundraising.
* Strong relationship management skills with funders, supporters, and stakeholders; excellent written and verbal communication skills, including bid writing, reporting, and presenting to boards or senior stakeholders.
* Ability to track and manage pipelines, budgets, and reporting systems for multiple funding streams; ability to work collaboratively at senior leadership level and contribute to organisational strategy.
Experience & Knowledge
* Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a fundraising/development role, preferably within arts, heritage, or cultural organisations.
* Experience of individual giving programmes, including donor cultivation, stewardship, and retention.
* Proven track record of successful major funding applications to trusts, foundations, statutory bodies, and corporate funders.
* Knowledge of fundraising regulations, best practice, and ethical standards.
* Understanding of the role of fundraising in supporting organisational growth.
Salary: £32,000 for 4 days; £40,000 FTE for 5 days.
Contract: Permanent, full-time (40 hrs/wk) or 0.8 FTE (32 hrs/wk) options available; both include paid lunch breaks. Some flexibility in home working available.
