Operations is the beating heart of Amazon. As a Transportation Area Manager, you will be the responsible and accountable leader for a team of associates in a cluster within the UK. You will own the operations and engagement of your shift with the aim to optimize associates' experience and performance in hand with load planning and efficiency, with a focus on Safety.
Key Job Responsibilities
* Safeguard team’s safety, promoting Amazon’s Health and Safety standards and ensuring compliance with all safety programs.
* Ensure team engagement and motivation, fostering a culture of ownership and high performance.
* Collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
* Uphold Amazon’s high standards of process quality.
* Improve and streamline processes, diving deep to find root causes quickly.
* Become a subject matter expert on processes and activities.
* Share and promote best practices with colleagues and network.
* Find practical and simple solutions to complex problems without compromising quality or core functionality.
* Think analytically about project management.
* Provide day‑to‑day support during roll‑out/implementation of newer systems/processes and gather feedback.
* Communicate daily metrics and report exceptions.
* Act as the responsible person for the Operator License (O License).
* Prepare and participate in operations daily calls to communicate your team’s performance to TOM leadership.
* Require extensive travel within your cluster.
* Ensure fleet and driver compliance through active monitoring and reporting.
A Day in the Life
You’ll work on a shift pattern at one of our sites, ensuring it is as productive as possible. Your main focus will be to own and drive a culture of safety, uphold quality, and maintain shift performance standards. You’ll also oversee process improvements and implement them. A typical day is varied, including routine team management, daily operational responsibilities, process improvement, and large‑scale operational contingency tasks. You’ll act as a role‑model and mentor to new managers.

Amazon Transportation Service (ATS) team drives delivery at pace. As part of ATS, you’ll join a diverse team that plays a central role in our success. Using air, sea, and road transport, as well as sortation centres equipped with the latest technology, you’ll help Amazon’s transport run at maximum efficiency. The team captures data and uses it to drive decisions, making Amazon more innovative and efficient. We put safety first because our people are our priority. We use the expertise of our people to get packages to their destination quickly, conveniently, and sustainably.
Basic Qualifications
* Advanced degree, or Bachelor’s degree
* Experience in transportation or supply chain within a high‑volume logistics, manufacturing or engineering environment
* Experience using data to make business decisions and manage training efforts
* Experience with performance metrics and process improvement and Lean techniques
* Experience prioritizing and handling multiple assignments at any given time while maintaining commitment to deadlines
* Experience engaging, verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders to convey complex ideas in a clear, concise manner
* Experience in English‑language communication skills, both written and verbal
Preferred Qualifications
* Master’s degree in operations research, applied mathematics, theoretical computer science, or equivalent, or experience working for Amazon or any Amazon subsidiary or affiliate
* Hold a Transport Managers Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) National and International
