Cheltenham, Manchester
Job description
Flexible working: this is a full-time role but we offer other flexible working options, such as flexible and compressed hours. You will be on-site for the majority of your week, with 10% home working possible, dependent on business need.
About Us
GCHQ is an intelligence, cyber and security agency with a mission to keep the UK safe. We use cutting-edge technology, ingenuity and partnerships to identify, analyse and disrupt threats. Working with our intelligence partners MI5 and MI6, we protect the UK from terrorism, cyber-attacks and espionage. At GCHQ you’ll do varied and fascinating work in a supportive and inclusive environment that emphasizes teamwork.
The Role
At GCHQ, we rely on our infrastructure to support the systems that keep the UK safe and secure. As a subject matter expert (SME), you’ll leverage your experience with mechanical and electrical systems to ensure technical standards are met and maintained. Whether working independently, with other SMEs, or with the Technical Assurance team, you’ll oversee our entire estate.
You could be reviewing new building designs or providing technical analysis of infrastructure issues, relying on your knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems to deliver sound technical solutions. The varied projects mean no two days are the same, and you’ll play a significant role in our mission.
You may also take on line management duties for a small team, guiding and supporting team members. Extended hours may occasionally be required, compensated via overtime. Some travel within the UK and limited overseas travel should be expected.
About You
A good working knowledge of mechanical and electrical (M&E) building systems, such as HVAC and HV/LV distribution systems, is essential. Ideally, you have a strong record as an SME in your current role and hold relevant qualifications like AP electrical or mechanical. Training will be provided to reach the required level, considering relevant experience and qualifications such as Test and Inspection of Electrical Installations City & Guilds or equivalent facilities management qualifications.
You should have practical experience maintaining, installing, and assuring M&E building systems, along with analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Leadership experience with small teams is a plus.
A full UK driving license is required.
Training and Development
We provide comprehensive induction, ongoing training, and opportunities for professional development, including support for obtaining relevant qualifications and certifications. Our skills community supports your career growth and progression within the organization.
