Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen due to site expansion and the launch of a new production line at a well‑established, global manufacturing operation in Bolton. We're seeking an experienced Shift Manager to play a key role in driving operational excellence, team performance, and continuous improvement within a high‑volume, regulated manufacturing environment.
Role
As Shift Manager, you will be accountable for the end‑to‑end performance of your shift on a modern manufacturing line. You'll lead, coach and develop your team while ensuring production targets, quality standards and compliance requirements are consistently achieved.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and supervise all production activities during your shift, ensuring alignment with build schedules and pre‑SOP readiness
* Lead, motivate and develop the manufacturing team; conduct performance reviews and address staffing or performance issues
* Ensure product quality standards are met, responding quickly to defects or process issues
* Monitor KPIs including output, yield and efficiency, reporting performance to senior management
* Oversee equipment use, troubleshooting issues to minimise downtime and maximise productivity
* Resolve operational issues such as bottlenecks, equipment failure or supply chain disruption
* Ensure compliance with industry standards, environmental regulations and internal policies
* Drive continuous improvement through lean manufacturing and process optimisation initiatives
* Mentor and develop Production Team Members (PTMs), embedding lean thinking and accountability
* Act as a senior site contact during out‑of‑hours periods, supporting wider business needs
Qualifications / Experience
* 5+ years’ experience in production or shift management within a manufacturing environment (electronics or automotive preferred)
* Strong working knowledge of IATF 16949, PPAP, APQP and FMEA
* Proven experience implementing lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar CI tools
* Experience coordinating cross‑functional teams and working with OEM customers
* Strong analytical skills with a practical, solutions‑focused mindset
* Excellent communication skills, able to influence at all levels
* Experience using MES, ERP systems and Microsoft Office for reporting and analysis
* Ability to manage priorities, deadlines and smooth shift handovers
