Overview
The Azure Fiber team in Romsey is seeking dynamic candidates with energy and a passion for innovation to join our team. You will be working on high value and specialist fiber manufacturing equipment at our state of the art fiber facility. The equipment will deliver fabrication technologies for radically novel optical fibers, including glass preform manufacture, optical fiber drawing and associated processes.
The role will play a pivotal role in driving technical excellence and operational reliability across manufacturing systems. This position leads complex troubleshooting efforts to maximise equipment uptime, mentors junior engineers, and collaborates cross-functionally to implement sustainable engineering solutions. The role demands a proactive approach to continuous improvement, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement.. As such, this is a 'hands on' role based in Romsey five days a week.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND technical engineering experienceOR Master's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND technical engineering experienceOR Doctorate degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fieldOR equivalent experience.
2. Experience in engineering support within a manufacturing environment.

These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
4. Proven track record in leading technical teams and resolving complex engineering challenges.
5. Strong knowledge of automation systems, industrial controls, and mechanical design.
6. Proficiency in CAD tools and engineering documentation systems.
7. Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities
8. Lead resolution of high-impact engineering issues across production lines, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
9. Lead design, and maintenance teams to develop and implement robust engineering solutions aligned with business goals.
10. Identify and execute improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other structured methodologies to enhance efficiency and reliability.
11. Oversee the creation and maintenance of technical documentation, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
12. Provide technical guidance and training to engineering support staff and production teams, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
13. Lead engineering support projects, including new equipment commissioning, process validation, and cross-site standardisation efforts.
• Liaise with external vendors and suppliers to resolve technical issues, manage spare parts, and support procurement decisions.
