Overview
Senior Safeguarding and Student Welfare Officer (acting as Deputy to the Designated Safeguarding Lead). You will play a vital role in ensuring the wellbeing, safety and inclusion of every student is at the heart of school life.
You will support the DSL in managing all aspects of safeguarding and child protection, including overseeing records, triaging concerns through MyConcern, and ensuring that effective action is taken swiftly and appropriately. You will work closely with pastoral staff, counsellors, and house teams to provide joined-up support for students, ensuring they have access to the right help at the right time.
Beyond case management, you will take a proactive approach to raising awareness across the school community. This includes delivering safeguarding training, producing regular updates and resources for staff and students, and contributing to initiatives that promote positive mental health and wellbeing. Your work will be central in creating an environment where students feel safe, heard and understood.
Responsibilities
* Assist the Designated Safeguarding Lead in all safeguarding and child protection duties.
* Oversee safeguarding records and triage concerns using MyConcern; ensure timely, appropriate action.
* Collaborate with pastoral staff, counsellors and house teams to deliver joined-up student support.
* Deliver safeguarding training and create regular updates and resources for staff and students.
* Contribute to initiatives that promote positive mental health and wellbeing within the school community.
* Liaise with external agencies, families and professionals to secure the best outcomes for young people.
* Provide guidance and reassurance to colleagues on safeguarding matters; foster a culture of openness and trust.
Qualifications and Skills
* Expertise in safeguarding and a passion for student welfare.
* Confident communicator with the ability to inspire confidence and maintain high safeguarding standards.
* Empathy, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility.
* Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies.
Additional Information
* Hours: 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Saturday during term time, plus 2 weeks during non-term time (34.6 total working weeks).
* Salary: up to £45,000 per annum (inclusive of statutory holiday pay), dependent on skills and experience.
