Phlebotomist – Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust
Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team of phlebotomists at the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will deliver a high‑quality, patient‑focused blood‑taking service across hospitals, GP surgeries, outpatient services, community diagnostic centres and patients’ homes. A strong commitment to compassionate care, good communication skills, the ability to work under pressure and accurate data recording are essential.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain patient dignity and confidentiality at all times.
* Adhere to the Trust Aseptic Non‑Touch Technique Policy (ANTT) and all Health and Safety Regulations.
* Work unsupervised in hospital settings, community clinics and during domiciliary visits.
* Keep phlebotomy trolleys, cupboards and drawers fully stocked and maintain clean, tidy work areas.
* Support stock‑taking in community settings and undertake surveys/audits when requested.
* Attend to staff and patient queries, referring appropriately.
* Use the visual display unit to book appointments and access the Trust intranet, Q‑pulse and work‑related e‑mails.
* Commit to a seven‑day service, including bank holidays, between 08:00 and 20:00, and cover other staff when required.
* Perform any duties defined by the Phlebotomy Operations Manager and Team Leader in charge.
Person Specification
Essential
* Educated to GCSE (A*‑D) level in Mathematics & English.
* Level 2 NVQ/QCF or equivalent in healthcare or customer service‑related subject.
* Willingness to complete further training to support the role.
* Demonstrable experience of working in a healthcare setting or customer service‑focused role.
* Evidence of complying with legislation, policies and procedures.
* Ability to work under pressure while prioritising patients.
* Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office packages.
* Physical ability to lift, bend, push, pull and stand for long periods.
* Access to suitable transport for community and domiciliary work; reasonable adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act.
Desirable
* Previous experience using Point of Care testing equipment.
* Previous phlebotomy experience.
