Job overview

Trust Doctor ST3+ in Infectious Diseases/General Internal Medicine

This is a fixed term role 10th February 2025 – 09 February 2026.

An ST3+ registrar is required to work in infectious diseases based on B6 ward in the Louisa Martindale Building. Responsibilities will include being on the wards and in rapid access and general ID clinics. There is no out-of-hours on-call commitment (although for an experienced candidate then there may be potential to do Microbiology on calls dependent on local need). There is an expectation of flexible working between the hours of 08:00-18:00 weekdays, depending on clinical need.


Main duties of the job

In terms of clinical duties, the doctor will be responsible to the Consultants in Infection and deputise for them as required. Clinical responsibilities will include:

1. Managing in-patients under the care of the inpatient infection team
2. Assessment of in-patient referrals
3. Supervision of foundation grade doctors
4. Participation in research and governance meetings
5. Contributing to infection prevention and control (IPC) management
6. General liaison with clinicians and with other diagnostic departments

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Candidates are expected to actively engage in and present clinical audit and teaching and there are monthly Quality, Safety and Patient Experience governance meetings and bi-monthly pan-department all day meetings. The Trust and Consultants fully support staff developing their academic and research interests.


Person specification


Experience & Qualifications

* Basic Medical Degree
* Full MRCP or equivalent
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
* Valid Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
* Higher Degree
* DTM&H


Clinical Skills & Experience

* Experience at ST3+ level in GiM
* Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
* Experience at ST3+ level in Infectious Diseases


Organisation and Planning

* Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
* Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
* Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended
