Job overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic nurse with colorectal experience to join our Stoma team at Southend Hospital as an Associate Clinical Nurse Specialist. The role involves working within a team committed to providing excellent care for patients affected by colorectal cancer and those requiring surgery.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will promote high standards of care for Uro-oncology patients, collaborate with colorectal services and multidisciplinary team members, support patients and families, and share CNS expertise. This role is suitable for nurses with colorectal or urological surgery experience wishing to develop into a Stoma Nurse CNS role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
* Plan appropriate care pathways for patients in hospital and home settings.
* Discuss treatment options with patients and families.
* Demonstrate knowledge of gastrointestinal physiology and investigations.
* Apply principles of the enhanced recovery programme.
* Develop differential diagnoses and care plans.
* Communicate effectively with patients and families about their conditions.
* Support patient groups and facilitate newsletters.
* Maintain Nurse-led clinics in hospital and community settings.
* Assess patient needs clinically from physiological and psychological perspectives.
* Support adherence to treatments and health promotion strategies.
* Work effectively with others and escalate concerns when necessary.

Person specification
Qualifications/Training
* Registered Nurse
* At least 2 years post-registration experience in colorectal surgery
* ENB 997 or equivalent
* BSc or Masters in an allied field
* Non-Medical Nurse prescribing
* Consultation and Assessment Course
* Experience caring for colorectal patients
* Experience at junior sister level or similar
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
* Effective escalation of concerns
* Experience with nurse-led services or service redesign
* Basic computer skills
