Shape the future of a purpose-driven mutual.
We’re delighted to be partnering with Teachers Building Society, a well-respected, education-focused mutual, as they continue to evolve and expand their impact in the financial services space.
With a clear social purpose, they’re now investing in the kind of operational excellence and digital maturity that will futureproof their member experience.
In this pivotal role, they are seeking a strategic and commercially astute Chief Financial Officer, to help shape their growth journey and progress the society’s ambitions as they enter the next stage of their development. With the final phase of their system upgrade underway, Teachers are laying the foundations for future growth—enabling them to better serve their members, borrowers, and savers for years to come. You will be working closely with fellow board members and the broader team, navigating regulatory requirements, optimising capital, and supporting digital transformation initiatives.
Due to the importance and level of this role, you would be required to be office based full time for the first 6 months, with a view then to have a more hybrid approach to the working week of circa. 3 days at head office and the remainder free to work from office or home.
What you’ll lead:
* Continuously review the Society’s business model and strategy, making recommendations for development and improvement.
* Ensure the Society maintains adequate capital, funding, and liquidity at all times.
* Chair of ALCO and being an active member on several other committees, including ExCo and PPPC
* Advise ALCO and the Board on the appropriateness of the Financial Risk Management Policy, recommend changes where necessary, and ensure full compliance.
* Oversee the maintenance of statutory books and records, preparation of financial accounts, and submission of financial and statistical returns to regulators, BSA, and HMRC
* Oversee treasury, payments, supplier administration, and oversight of payroll activities, ensuring accuracy and strong controls.
* Ensure compliance with PRA requirements, including ICAAP, ILAAP, Recovery Plan, Resolution Pack, and stress testing frameworks.
What you’ll bring:
* Fully qualified accountant (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with at least 10 years post-qualification experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a senior commercial and technical role within a financial institution, ideally within a mutual or retail banking environment
* Strong technical expertise in treasury management, liquidity risk, and funding strategies suitable for a small mutual
* Solid understanding of retail banking or building society operations, including mortgage lending and savings products
* Detailed knowledge of prudential regulation applicable to authorised institutions, particularly those operating in the savings and mortgage market
Why this, why now?
This isn’t just about keeping the lights on. It’s about modernising and reimagining how a trusted mutual delivers value to its members. You’ll join a values-led, commercially ambitious team with strong leadership and support, where your voice will shape both strategy and culture.
In return, you’ll receive:
* Up to £160k salary
* Matched pension up to 10%
* 30 days holiday (plus bank holidays)
* Private Medical Insurance, Health Insurance & enhanced family leave
* Discretionary bonus & more
If you are passionate about making a meaningful impact within a purpose-driven organisation, we would love to hear from you.
