You'll be joining a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and clinicians focused on developing cutting-edge technologies that leverage Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to accelerate disease detection, improve diagnostic accuracy, and enable personalised medicine.
The Role
As a Data Scientist (ML/AI), you will play a key role in designing, developing, and deploying advanced data models that directly impact patient care and clinical outcomes. You'll work across the full data science lifecycle-from data exploration and feature engineering through to model training, evaluation, and implementation in production systems.
This is a hands-on role where you'll collaborate closely with data engineers, bioinformaticians, and clinical experts to turn complex biomedical data into actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop, train, and validate machine learning and AI models for diagnostic and predictive applications.
2. Analyse large, multi-modal healthcare datasets (e.g. genomic, imaging, and clinical data).
3. Conduct exploratory data analysis and feature engineering to extract key biological and clinical signals.
4. Collaborate with engineers to integrate models into cloud-based diagnostic platforms.
5. Evaluate and optimise model performance, ensuring compliance with medical data governance and regulatory standards (GDPR, ISO 13485, MHRA).
6. Contribute to research publications and present findings at internal and external scientific forums.
7. Stay up-to-date with advancements in ML/AI, particularly within biomedical and diagnostic applications.
Skills & Experience Required
8. MSc or PhD in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
9. Proven experience developing ML/AI models using Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, or similar frameworks.
10. Strong background in statistics, predictive modelling, and data visualisation.
11. Experience with healthcare, diagnostics, or biomedical datasets (structured or unstructured).
12. Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and MLOps pipelines.
13. Solid understanding of data privacy and regulatory considerations in the health sector.
14. Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset-comfortable working in cross-functional, scientific teams.
Desirable
15. Experience with medical imaging (e.g. MRI, CT, histopathology) or omics data (genomic, proteomic, metabolomic).
16. Knowledge of NLP or generative AI applications in healthcare.
17. Familiarity with DevOps / CI/CD for ML models.
18. Previous experience in a regulated medical device or diagnostic environment.
