The Production Planner is responsible for creating and maintaining a realistic and achievable production plan that aligns customer demand, forecasted orders, and manufacturing capacity. This role translates demand into actionable production schedules and material requirements while ensuring alignment across Sales, Operations, Supply Chain, and Engineering. The Production Planner supports a stable manufacturing environment, meets delivery commitments, and drives continuous improvement in planning accuracy and performance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, maintain, and manage the Production schedule based on firm orders and forecasted demand.
Translate demand signals (sales, BP and forecast data (Rates)) into MRP-driven material requirements.
Create and maintain planning bills of material (BOMs) to support forecast-driven production and open schedule slots against the rates.
Analyse demand trends and historical data to adjust planning assumptions, mix, and configuration percentages.
Coordinate with BP, Operations, and Supply Chain to align production plans with business needs.
Monitor and manage planned vs. actual production performance, including delivery dates and schedule adherence.
Adjust production schedules in response to:
Customer demand changes
Engineering changes and product updates
Supply constraints or capacity limitations
Support supply chain relating to capacity planning by ensuring suppliers receive accurate component/parts forecasts.
Lead and participate in daily/weekly planning and cross-functional meetings to ensure alignment and issue resolution.
Oversee or coordinate change control, scheduling updates, and system data accuracy within planning systems.
Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing systems on Design change notices (DCNs) and configurator updates impacting production or BOMs.
Approve and coordinate significant configuration or production changes affecting manufacturing or contract partners.
Track, analyse, and report planning performance metrics (e.g., forecast accuracy, schedule adherence, shortages, earned hours absorption vs available hours).
Identify and mitigate material shortages and supply risks to ensure on-time delivery.
Support continuous improvement of planning processes, tools, and systems.
