Our Information and Digital Directorate is responsible for delivering the Foreign Secretary’s ambition to make the FCDO the most technologically integrated and innovative foreign ministry in the world. This will involve harnessing digital, data, technology, IT security and information management as we deliver our diplomatic, development and consular aims, all while keeping our people and information safe, especially from hostile actors.
When you join us in this role, you’ll lead on the technical design of systems and services, explore the benefits of aligning them across government, and collaborate with your colleagues on a range of problems that require broad architectural thinking.
Providing guidance and advice to other technical architects in the Directorate, and mentoring other members of your team, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn, develop your technical expertise, understand how an international organisation works and build your leadership and mentoring skills. In addition, we’ll offer you access to a great online learning platform, the opportunity to attend industry events, and the chance to network with technology leaders in other government departments.
Responsibilities
* Lead on the technical design of systems and services and explore benefits of aligning them across government.
* Collaborate with colleagues on problems requiring broad architectural thinking.
* Provide guidance and advice to other technical architects in the Directorate and mentor team members.
* Develop leadership and mentoring skills through continued learning and cross-government engagement.
* Engage with opportunities for online learning, industry events, and networking with technology leaders in other government departments.
Qualifications
* Well developed technical expertise of M365, Azure, AWS, cloud networks, telephony and digital systems.
* Experience with scaled agile frameworks and implementations.
* Ability to work with optimal technical designs through iterative processes and to contribute to design and review processes for new solutions and services.
* Capability to present recommendations for improvements to technologies or systems.
* Champion of developing technical architectural practice with the ability to ensure a consistent strategy across cyber, cloud, data centre, storage, network, mobile and user experience of infrastructure.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for coaching and mentoring the architectural community and engaging with development opportunities across government.
* British citizenship at the time of application and eligibility to attain Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance; DV clearance can take approximately three months depending on individual circumstances.
