Overview
Burnley General Hospital Outpatient Receptionist/Clerical Officer – 37.5 hours Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours a day. The role provides comprehensive reception and clerical service to patients and visitors within the East Lancashire Health Community, ensuring high customer care and maintaining confidentiality.
Responsibilities
You will:
* Act as the first point of contact for all patients and visitors, providing a comprehensive reception and clerical service.
* Answer queries from patients at the busy reception desk and by telephone.
* Greet patients, arrange follow‑up appointments, book patient transport and ensure communication assistance via interpreters or link workers when required.
* Prepare casenotes for certain clinics, ensuring data items required for commissioning and data quality, in line with the Trust’s Clinical Records Policy.
* Adhere to departmental policies and procedures, participate in audits to maintain data quality, and provide efficient service.
* Cover shift patterns across sites (Royal Blackburn & Burnley General Teaching hospitals) between 8 am and 8 pm, including covering for holidays, sickness absence and bank holidays.
* Print referrals from the Choose and Book System/email system for outpatient clinics (currently Eye clinic only) and check Cerner Millennium for all other specialty referrals.
* Cancel or reduce clinic schedules, liaise with patients by letter, text or telephone for short‑notice cancellations, and reschedule as appropriate in line with the Trust’s Access, Booking and Choice Policy.
