Copello are partnering with a leading organisation within the defence and advanced manufacturing sector to recruit a Senior Industrial Engineer. The Role
We are looking for a multi-skilled Industrial Engineer to provide technical, operational, and project support across a range of products and programmes. This position spans the full product lifecycle from early customer engagement and development through to production readiness and volume manufacturing.
You will be instrumental in driving innovation, improving manufacturing performance, and supporting strategic growth initiatives across the business.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop innovative solutions for new products, processes, and manufacturing systems
* Contribute to strategic roadmaps focused on factory capacity, infrastructure improvements, and investment planning
* Support new project development, technology integration, and business opportunities
* Analyse manufacturing system performance to identify improvement opportunities using Industrial Engineering methodologies
* Define equipment, facilities, and resource requirements for new or evolving processes
* Produce detailed factory layouts and line designs using AutoCAD
* Support planning, costing, and implementation of new or modified manufacturing areas
* Optimise assembly lines through workflow analysis, time and motion studies, and ergonomic assessments
* Deliver detailed technical reports, presentations, and project documentation
* Apply tools such as simulation modelling, value stream mapping, PFMEA, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma
* Collaborate closely with engineering and design teams to ensure products are manufacturable and efficiently transitioned into production
* Conduct labour estimating for electronic, cable, and mechanical assemblies
* Support factory safety initiatives and ergonomic improvements
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
* Degree in an engineering discipline (e.g. Industrial, Mechanical, Electronics, Manufacturing Systems) or equivalent experience
* Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project)
* Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or simulation modelling tools
* Strong analytical capability, including statistical analysis and modelling techniques (e.g. SPC, queuing theory, Lean, Six Sigma)
* Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally
* Strong understanding of cost drivers across manufacturing and project delivery environments
Desirable:
* Significant experience in Industrial Engineering within a manufacturing environment
* Proven experience developing new processes, manufacturing areas, or facility expansions
* Ability to produce and present detailed technical information to stakeholders and customers
* Knowledge of SMT, unit assembly, box build, and associated manufacturing processes
* Experience in supply chain integration and material handling
* Leadership or mentoring experience within engineering teams
* Familiarity with simulation tools such as Witness or similar
