Job summary
The successful candidate will be part of the Data Science function, supporting the Digital Strategy and its goals around Digitisation, specifically through big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The role focuses on applying advanced statistical methods and artificial intelligence to the 4 key levels of analytics; descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive, providing high quality evaluation into the cause and effect of the complex challenges a busy Acute Trust faces.
The successful candidate will demonstrate line management responsibilities including setting development plans for the team. Effective communication and stakeholder management is a must; the candidate will actively participate towards a variety of trust wide projects, alongside a range of stakeholders. Alongside this, the candidate will demonstrate a high technical competency in programming languages (SQL, R, Python or similar) and time management skills required to be able to deliver high quality and accurate outputs, in line with project requirements, governance/assurance processes and deadlines. It is also key that the successful candidate is committed to their ongoing personal development, of developing their skills and knowledge, in line with Data Science training frameworks and skills standards.
As a team, in-person collaboration is encouraged and supported, therefore we have dedicated onsite team days to share knowledge and support each other, to enable the best of both worlds.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for the delivery of accurate, timely, value-added analysis to meet the requirements of a data driven Trust.
Proactively developing both quantitative and qualitative indicators to support the requirements of the clinical and corporate divisions.
To be the lead for a designated team and provide expert support to underpin project work and decision making for the needs of a modern NHS. Formulate complex statistical models and algorithms using a variety of data languages to support analysis and decision making, presenting these back to stakeholders at meetings as the BI representative.

Essential
* Educated to degree level which clearly demonstrates the use of numerical based analysis and problem solving e.g. Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Medical Statistics, Biostatistics, Econometrics, Core Sciences
* Evidence of training and qualifications in computer science, mathematics and statistics
Experience and Knowledge
Essential
* Demonstrates knowledge and practical experience of multiple programming languages
* Demonstrates experience in data extraction and manipulation of structured and unstructured data from both cloud and on premises data sources.
* Experience in managing and contributing to advanced and complex data analysis programmes of work
Desirable
* Evidences an understanding of Python programming
* Proven knowledge of NHS information datasets, data manual and IT / reporting systems
* Practical experience in modelling e.g. forecasting, capacity and demand
Skills and Ability
Essential
* Has an understanding of classical statistical methods and their application in healthcare
* Demonstrates project management skills, including contribution towards and end to end ownership of an analytical project end to end
* Proactive and innovative approach to problem solving
Desirable
* Practical experience in applying statistical modelling techniques to healthcare data
* Demonstrates experience in using statistical software packages
