HR / Payroll Assistant
Location: Birmingham (On-site)
Salary: £28,000 pa
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm
About the Role
We’re recruiting an HR / Payroll Assistant on behalf of a well established food manufacturing company based in Birmingham. Supplying major UK supermarkets and operating at scale, this business combines tradition and innovation within a fast paced production environment.
Working closely with the HR Manager, you’ll play a key part in ensuring day-to-day HR operations run smoothly. From supporting payroll and maintaining employee records to assisting in disciplinary processes and onboarding new starters, the role being varied and hands-on role.

Key Responsibilities
1. Provide administrative and operational support to the HR function
2. Coordinate onboarding and references for new starters
3. Maintain HR systems and accurate employee records
4. Process payroll, queries and liaise with finance
5. Support managers during disciplinary and grievance meetings
6. Administer holiday tracking and updates
7. Be a point of contact for staff regarding HR and benefits queries
8. Assist with recruitment, training coordination, and employee development
9. Update organisational charts and manage training matrices
10. Take minutes in meetings and assist with general office tasks
11. Step in for HR Manager when required
What We’re Looking For
12. Prior HR experience in a manufacturing environment (essential)
13. Experience in food manufacturing (advantageous)
14. Minimum CIPD Level 3 qualification
15. Experience with payroll administration/support
16. Good understanding of HR best practice
17. Excellent organisational and communication skills
18. Strong attention to detail and a collaborative mindset
