Job Summary:
The Activity Coordinator will be responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering a wide variety of engaging, therapeutic, and person-cantered activities for residents with learning disabilities. The activities will cater to individual preferences, capabilities, and needs, promoting physical, emotional, and social well-being. The ideal candidate will demonstrate creativity, compassion, and a passion for improving the quality of life of our residents.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and Implement Person-centred Activities:
Plan and coordinate individual and group activities that are tailored to the interests, abilities, and preferences of each resident, fostering personal growth and community participation.
Promote Social Inclusion and Interaction:
Encourage residents to participate in activities that promote socialization, engagement, and independence. Ensure activities are designed to improve communication skills, mobility, and cognitive function.
Organise a Range of Activities:
Activities may include arts and crafts, music therapy, sensory stimulation, gardening, games, exercise programs, outings, and cultural events. Adapt activities to cater to residents with varying levels of learning disabilities and mobility.
Work Collaboratively with Staff and Families:
Liaise with the care team, therapists, volunteers, and families to ensure activities align with the residents’ care plans and well-being goals. Engage family members in activity planning and execution when appropriate.
Ensure Inclusivity and Accessibility:
Ensure all activities are inclusive and accessible, considering the physical, emotional, and cognitive needs of the residents. Make adjustments as necessary to meet individual requirements.
Record and Report Resident Participation:
Maintain accurate records of activity participation, documenting residents' responses and feedback to adjust future activities accordingly. Use this information to evaluate the effectiveness of programs.
Contribute to Resident Care Plans:
Collaborate with the care team to review and update resident care plans, ensuring activities support their overall care, health, and development goals.
Organize Special Events and Outings:
Coordinate seasonal celebrations, birthday events, and trips within the community, creating opportunities for residents to engage with the outside world and experience new environments.
Budget and Resource Management:
Work within allocated budgets to purchase supplies and equipment for activities, ensuring the responsible use of resources and donations. Explore opportunities for external funding or donations for special projects.
Training and Development:
Stay updated on best practices for delivering activities for individuals with learning disabilities. Attend relevant training and workshops, and share knowledge with colleagues.
Person Specification:
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience working with adults with learning disabilities, preferably in a residential or care setting.
- Ability to plan and deliver a wide range of person-centred activities that cater to varying abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage residents, staff, and families.
- Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to improve the well-being of individuals with learning disabilities.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Flexibility to adapt activities to the changing needs of residents.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
- NVQ or similar qualification in Health and Social Care, Activity Provision, or related field.
- Experience with art therapy, music therapy, or other therapeutic interventions.
- Familiarity with safeguarding and health and safety policies in a care setting.
Working Hours:
Flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays, to ensure activities are available throughout the week.
