Offer description

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Water Team as a Water Supply Team Manager, covering our Berwick-upon-Tweed operating area. In this role, you will play a key part in delivering excellent water services to around 25,000 customers, as well as supporting local communities and protecting the environment across North Northumberland.

As a leader within our frontline operations, you will oversee a team of skilled Technicians and take responsibility for the day-to-day running of two water treatment works, as well as the transmission of water from source to tap. You will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure water quality and supply volumes are consistently maintained, while also driving continuous improvement across the operation. A strong focus on regulatory compliance and health and safety will be essential, ensuring these remain at the forefront of everything you and your team do.

We are looking for someone with previous experience of managing people, who brings strong leadership capability and a genuine passion for team development. You will be confident in providing constructive feedback, supporting colleagues to grow and improve, while creating an environment where individuals feel valued, trusted and empowered to take ownership of their work.

While experience within the water industry is not essential, we are keen to hear from candidates who have transferable skills, a proactive mindset and a strong ambition to build a career in water supply operations. Full training will be provided to support you in developing the technical expertise needed to succeed in this role.

At our organisation, we recognise the importance of professional development and are committed to supporting your growth through training and development opportunities.

This role covers our Berwick supply area, stretching from the Scottish Border down to Wooler and Holy Island. You will be part of a standby rota, typically on a 1-in-8-week rotation, providing out-of-hours operational support.

Candidates who participate in the standby rota, must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the geographical area they are covering or their work depot

This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a meaningful leadership role where you can make a real difference to people, communities and the environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Manage and supervise the operations, maintenance and repair of boreholes, water treatment works, service reservoirs and the water network for our Berwick operating area.
2. Implement and monitor visual management systems to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
3. Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, Water Quality regulations.
4. Monitor water network performance to identify and resolve leakage in line with company targets.
5. Lead and develop a team of Water Supply Technicians.
6. Monitor performance and implement corrective actions as necessary.
7. Collaborate with other departments to optimise processes and achieve operational goals.

About you

We’re looking for a confident and inspiring leader who can bring out the best in others. You’ll be someone who leads by example, motivates your team and creates an environment where people feel empowered to take ownership and perform at a high level.

You’ll be comfortable working with technology and using digital tools to support operations, including systems like SCADA and GIS. While experience with these isn’t essential, you’ll have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet, making effective decisions and responding quickly to operational challenges.

A key part of the role will involve embracing visual management techniques to help drive team performance and develop the operational area. You don’t need prior experience in this, but you will bring a proactive mindset and a genuine desire to continuously improve outcomes across Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and People.

We’re particularly interested in individuals who are eager to learn and grow. You’ll receive a comprehensive induction to build your technical knowledge, so a positive attitude towards learning and self-development is essential.

As this is a field-based role, you’ll also need to hold a full, valid UK manual driving licence.
