Overview
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic person to join our team of Geomatics Analysts. You will be part of a small team processing survey data to support the delivery of National Elevation Data Programmes, using specialist software and GIS to process and quality control data from Remote Sensing survey instrumentation including an Airborne LIDAR Terrain Mapper.
New starters to the Environment Agency are required to have an incident response role in addition to their day job. The type of roles available and the working patterns required for them are wide ranging and can be chosen by the individual. Team and Work
The Geomatics team, within National Monitoring Survey, provides specialist services to enable evidence to be used across the business. This includes collection and analysis of lidar, aerial photography, bathymetry and satellite data. The team collaborates with National & Area teams to support monitoring requirements across the Environment Agency and the wider environmental community.
Responsibilities
* Work as part of a small team processing survey data to support the delivery of National Elevation Data Programmes.
* Use specialist software and GIS to process and quality control data from Remote Sensing survey instrumentation, including Airborne LIDAR Terrain Mapper.
* Contribute to data quality control and development of GIS products used across the organisation.
Experience and Qualifications
* A relevant degree level qualification in Geography, GIS, Environment or another relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent experience with an understanding of operational applications.
* Practical experience and broad GIS skills using ESRI products such as ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap; experience with large and complex mapping datasets, preferably Airborne LiDAR.
* Experience of processing and quality control procedures on LIDAR datasets and LIDAR-derived Digital Elevation Models is advantageous.
* Experience in Remote Sensing techniques, analytical and problem-solving skills, with good attention to detail.
* Good organisational skills, motivation, and the ability to communicate effectively; ability to work unsupervised at times to meet deadlines.
Additional Information
* Location: National Monitoring Survey team is national; you can be based anywhere within working proximity to an EA office. Occasional travel to the Geomatics team hub in Bath may be required. The post is full-time; other working patterns will be considered.
* Interviews will be in person at our Bath office and will include a technical GIS assessment and capability questions.
* Length of contract: 17 months - Up to March 2027.
