Salary up to £70,000 DOE, Welcome Bonus up to £5,000 plus Relocation Allowance up to £5,000
We're looking for a confident and dedicated Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly team at Apollo Vets in Maldon. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced vet who thrives in a supportive environment, enjoys variety in their day, and values being part of a close-knit, forward-thinking practice.
While this role is based at our Maldon branch, we have three sites in total including Black Notley and Dunmow where you may occasionally lend your expertise across the wider team when needed.
A Role with Variety and Independence
At Maldon, you'll enjoy a healthy mix of consultations and surgeries, caring for a loyal client base of cats, dogs, rabbits, and the occasional small furry. Our caseload is varied, from routine spays, castrates, and lump removals to dentistry and soft tissue procedures.
This is a sole-charge position, perfect for a vet who enjoys autonomy and clinical freedom, though you'll never be alone. You'll have the full support and knowledge of a talented, experienced wider team, and access to referral options or visiting specialists if needed.
A Practice with Personality and Potential
Our Maldon branch is based in a charming converted house that's soon to undergo a full renovation, bringing fresh facilities while keeping its welcoming, homely feel. The practice currently features a cosy reception, two consult rooms (including a dedicated RVN consult space), a prep area and theatre, separate cat and dog wards, a dispensary backing onto reception, and a well‑equipped lab area.
You’ll also find an inviting staff room stocked with all the essentials, office space for quiet admin time, and a large on‑site car park for convenience.
We're fully equipped with dentistry, X‑ray, ultrasound, and capnography, with additional access at our main site to dental radiography, a new ultrasound machine, ventilator, and electric cautery giving you everything you need to deliver top‑quality care.
A Skilled and Supportive Team
Across our three sites, you'll be joining a capable and welcoming team of 2 Veterinary Surgeons, 7 RVNs, and 2 SVNs, supported by a dedicated client care team including receptionists, a VCA, and Practice Manager.
Our vets bring interests in diagnostics and cardiology, and we're proud to have a nurse with a certificate in anaesthesia, ensuring a strong clinical foundation across the practice. If you're already working towards a certificate, or would like to begin one, we'll actively support you to achieve it.
Flexible Hours and No Out‑of‑Hours Work
We understand the importance of work‑life balance. Our main branch is open Monday to Friday, 8am‑7pm, with the Maldon clinic operating from 8:30am‑6:30pm. You'll work a share of 1 in 6 Saturday mornings (8am‑1pm) with time off in lieu, and no out‑of‑hours duties.
Full‑time hours are typically spread across 4 or 5 days, but we're equally happy to consider part‑time applicants who value flexibility alongside clinical excellence.
Life in and Around Maldon
If you're thinking of relocating, Maldon offers the perfect mix of countryside charm and coastal beauty. Nestled on the banks of the River Blackwater, this historic market town is full of character, with cobbled streets, independent shops, and a relaxed riverside atmosphere. You'll find beautiful walking routes, cosy pubs, and great spots for paddleboarding or sailing right on your doorstep.
Maldon also enjoys easy access to Chelmsford, Colchester, and London, making it ideal for those wanting a quieter lifestyle without feeling too far from the action. Whether you're looking for countryside living, coastal air, or a welcoming community to call home, Maldon truly offers the best of all worlds.
