About the Role
We are looking for a collegiate applicant who can work as part of an interactive team of researchers. Working under Prof. Tom Wishart (BSc., MBA, PhD, FAS, FRSB, Lead of Neuroscience Research Theme @ SHIMR, Dept. of Biosciences, SST - https://www.ntu.ac.uk/staff-profiles/science-technology/thomas-wishart ), with members of his research team the successful applicant will generate and/or use proteomic data to identify novel regulators of nervous system stability in health and disease. Examples of the application of this type of workflow from the Wishart group can be found here: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=wishart+tm+AND+proteomic&sort=date. Training will be provided as appropriate to the needs of the successful applicant. In this role the applicant would work collaboratively to carry out the scientific work - leading on specific projects, contributing to the preparation of academic manuscripts, grant applications and research student supervision as appropriate.
A second part of the role is an excellent opportunity for the right individual to work closely with Dr David Boocock (an expert in the application of mass spectrometry, proteomic techniques https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=Boocock+D&sort=date ) who heads up our local proteomic facility. Contributing to activities supporting the local research ecosystem by advising and/or assisting with experimental design, sample handling and/or data analysis. Training will of course be provided as appropriate to the needs of the successful applicant.
To be effective in this role we are seeking individuals with a PhD in molecular biology, neuroscience and/or equivalent experience in proteomics (i.e. sample processing or data analysis).
For more details, please take a look at the role profile. If you want to make a contribution to the field of molecular neuroscience (through publications, presentations and public/patient engagement) and be part of a vibrant engaging community then this could be the place for you. We'll still consider applications even if you don't meet every single one of the requirements, so don't be put off if you don't match them perfectly. Please do enquire if you require support with flexible working patterns.
