About the Opportunity
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Supplies Manager to support the delivery of an efficient and effective supplies function across both Fire and Police businesses.
Based at our Service Headquarters in Stone, you will support and deputise for the Supplies Manager, ensuring service level agreements are maintained and operational needs are met. This is a key role requiring strong supervisory skills, procurement knowledge, and a proactive approach to compliance, safety, and stock control.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
1. Support the Supplies Manager in the day-to-day management of the department.
2. Supervise Stock Controllers and Tailor/Tailoress staff, ensuring timely and accurate issue of authorised stock.
3. Ensure all goods received are checked, documented and recorded accurately against purchase orders, investigating discrepancies promptly.
4. Assist with budget monitoring and control as directed.
5. Support procurement processes to ensure Best Value requirements are met.
6. Maintain accurate stock control systems and oversee stock take procedures.
7. Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, Fire Safety requirements, and COSHH regulations.
8. Manage the safe collection and certified disposal of waste uniforms and branded clothing.
9. Train staff in the use of stock control systems and support system development.
10. Respond to routine enquiries from Police and Fire and Rescue Service departments.
11. Deputise for the Supplies Manager as required.
About You
We are seeking a proactive, organised and detail-oriented professional with strong experience in purchasing and supplies management. You will be confident supervising staff, managing stock control systems and supporting procurement processes within a structured and compliance-driven environment. With a strong understanding of Health & Safety, Fire Safety and data protection requirements, you will demonstrate sound judgement, integrity and a commitment to maintaining high operational standards. The ability to communicate effectively, adapt to changing priorities and work collaboratively across departments is essential.
Essential Criteria:
12. Minimum five years’ experience within a Purchasing and Supplies function.
13. At least two years’ experience supervising staff.
14. Experience of operating and monitoring budgets.
15. Strong understanding of procurement processes and systems.
16. Advanced knowledge of stock control systems and stock take methods.
17. Good understanding and practical application of current Fire Safety legislation.
18. Qualified in, or willing to work towards, a relevant Health and Safety qualification.
19. Experience handling sensitive information in line with Data Protection/GDPR requirements.
20. Current and valid manual driving licence.
21. Good Microsoft Office/Excel skills
22. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

25. Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changing priorities.
