Job Description
The role is centered around teaching groups of engineering apprentices, typically with 12-14 students per class. The specific units within which a Lecturer is expected to deliver learning will depend on their prior knowledge and experience. Being part of a small team, you will be expected to deliver a range of engineering disciplines. The ideal candidate would have industry experience prior to their teaching career and be able to incorporate that experience into their delivery in an engaging, creative, and effective manner.
Lecturers teach approximately 80% of their hours, with the remaining 20% allocated for planning, marking, student meetings, etc.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to curriculum planning for various cohorts, aligned with apprenticeship requirements.
* Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, and resource materials for your teaching units.
* Teach a range of engineering knowledge units at Levels 3 and 4 (Level 4 only if qualified to HNC). There is also an opportunity to teach Level 2 workshop skills if qualified.
* Create and maintain up-to-date teaching resources accessible to learners.
* Utilize IT and learning technologies to deliver the curriculum.
* Assist in preparing assessment plans and schedules, and communicate expectations to learners.
* Assess learner progress regularly, providing academic and pastoral support.
* Provide written and oral feedback, conduct 1-to-1 progress reviews, and complete necessary documentation.
* Differentiate teaching to accommodate all learners, including those requiring additional support or extension.
* Embed Maths, English, and ICT skills within the curriculum and delivery.
* Conduct learner inductions and manage attendance and achievement records.
* Ensure a safe learning environment in compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
* Implement safeguarding, Prevent, and other relevant policies.
* Participate in wider company activities, apprenticeship delivery, or other duties as reasonably required.
Person Specification
* Experience teaching Level 3 and ideally Level 4 knowledge units in an FE environment. Experience with Level 2 workshop skills is also desirable.
* Minimum Level 3 Engineering qualification, preferably covering Mechanical and Electrical/Electronic elements.
* Teaching qualification for the FE sector (e.g., DET, DTLLS, PGCE, or equivalent).
* Up-to-date knowledge of developments in the Engineering sector and current teaching practices.
* Understanding of apprenticeships and their role within the wider qualification framework.
* Ability to deliver all aspects of the learning process, including preparation, planning, delivery, assessment, and evaluation.
