Responsibilities

* Lead and co-ordinate the delivery and development of the specialist gynaecology service including Colposcopy, hysteroscopy, urogynaecology and endometriosis service using evidence-based practice in line with agreed national standards for patient safety and clinical practice
* Support progress against the key performance indicators
* Work with the Lead Colposcopist, divisional chief midwife, Clinical director, ADO and wider team in colposcopy to support the development and delivery of the cervical screening service in accordance with NHS England Service specifications
* Work with Lead hysteroscopist, clinical director, cancer services, divisional chief midwife, ADO and wider team to support the development and delivery of the hysteroscopy service and NHS faster diagnosis cancer pathway
* Responsible for the effective and efficient operational management of the Specialist Gynaecology Outpatient department on a day-to-day basis
* Provide management, senior clinical leadership, expertise, advice and support to the nursing and wider multi-professional team to facilitate the effective delivery of care to patients at all times
* The post holder will provide clinical and professional advice at Clinical Service Unit and Divisional level


Clinical Duties and Patient Care

* The Lead Gynae Nurse will demonstrate advanced Gynaecology specialist knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and management of patients throughout their pathway with a focus on faster diagnosis of 2ww pathway and cervical cancer screening patients within NHS Cervical Screening Programme guidelines and protocols
* Work as part of the Gynaecology Team, within the scope of practice, exercising advanced clinical expertise, judgement, discretion, and decision making
* Lead and strategically develop the Gynaecology Cancer Service and manage the faster diagnosis 2ww service for suspected Gynaecology cancers in collaboration with cancer services to support delivery of the faster diagnosis standard
* Provide direct clinical care and consultation for patients within Gynaecology Cancer and benign cancer service at both diagnostic and treatment stages
* Utilise highly developed specialist knowledge, advanced clinical and practical skills, critical thinking, and decision-making to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for this patient cohort
* Be responsible for a cohort of patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, providing specialist guidance, advice, support and counselling (malignant and benign disease)
* Triage and assessment of 2ww faster diagnosis referrals and sequential ordering of diagnostic investigations
* Consultation and decision making for patients referred/presenting with suspected Gynaecology cancer symptoms
* Advanced communication skills to convey complex information to patients and carers, including communication of cancer diagnosis or ruled-out cancer


Professional Responsibilities

* Act as an advocate for patients, carers, the service and organisation at local, regional and national levels; share values and courageously speak up for service users and staff, listen, and act on what is important to them
* Maintain professional registration and work within NMC standards and guidance at all times


Management and Leadership Responsibilities

* Ensure a healthy, safe, and secure working environment, with compliance to legal and regulatory requirements, accurate documentation, and reporting of concerns
* Have managerial responsibility at a matron level for the Gynaecology team
* Act as a role model and demonstrate leadership within the clinical setting, imparting expert knowledge and high standards of clinical practice
