We’re recruiting two Defendant Paralegals to join AXA’s in-house Legal Services Unit (LSU) here in AXA Retail.
LSU is AXA’s in-house legal department responsible for managing litigated claims on behalf of AXA and its policyholders. In this role, you’ll manage a litigated portfolio of approximately 100 motor claims brought against AXA and/or its policyholders.

You’ll work at least 40% of your week away from home, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means attending our Gloucester office, visiting clients, or attending industry events. What you’ll be doing:
1. Handling a portfolio of litigated claims brought against our Motor policyholders, defending all proceedings to a high-quality standard.
2. Negotiating bent metal claims while keeping indemnity spend and lifecycles to a minimum.
3. Coordinating and preparing statements and briefing counsel.
4. Providing commercially focused legal advice.
5. Contributing to the department through knowledge sharing, training, etc.
6. Ensuring compliance with internal procedures and standards.

What you'll bring:
* Law degree and/or Litigation experience is desirable.
* Good knowledge of the Road Traffic Act, Civil Procedure rules, Hire/Credit Hire, and Court procedures.
* Ability to work independently with awareness of your boundaries of competence and authority.
* Team-oriented with experience in mentoring, coaching, and supervising less experienced team members.
* Confident communicator capable of developing relationships and influencing at all levels.
* Strong organizational skills with a pragmatic, methodical approach to handling claims via IT case management systems.
* Courage to challenge norms, share solutions, and conduct witness statement taking and interrogative interviewing.
* Ability to manage a complex, changing workload under pressure while maintaining quality standards.
As a precondition, you must be eligible and authorized to work in the UK. This role is classified as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role, requiring background screening every 4 years with annual declarations in interim years.
