Travis Perkins is the UK's largest distributor of building materials, supplying the trade for over 200 years. Behind every great project is a great range, and behind every great range is a Category Manager who knows their market inside out. That's where you come in.
The role
We're looking for a Category Manager to join our Commercial team, taking ownership of a category that drives £100m+ in sales. Working alongside the Senior Category Manager, you'll shape and deliver a category strategy that puts our customers first and keeps Travis Perkins ahead of the market.
This is a role for someone who thrives on commercial impact, building the right range, negotiating sharp deals with suppliers, and making decisions that move the needle on sales, margin and market share.
What you'll be doing
1. Building and executing a customer-focused category strategy aligned to our plan
2. Owning category plans informed by customer insight, market trends and competitor activity
3. Curating a product range that nails the balance between quality and value
4. Negotiating supplier trading terms to deliver margin improvements
5. Partnering with branch teams, marketing, pricing and space planning to bring commercial projects to life
6. Hitting your sales and margin budget, and building action plans when trading shifts
7. Managing supplier performance and keeping availability strong while controlling slow, dead and exit stock
What we're looking for
8. Experience in category management or a similar commercial role, with a track record of developing and delivering category strategy
9. Strong negotiation skills and supplier management experience
10. Sharp analytical mind with genuine commercial acumen
11. Confident communicator who can influence and persuade across functions
12. Customer-focused, comfortable working at pace and taking ownership
13. Degree level or equivalent work experience; CIPS qualification a bonus
14. Knowledge of the building industry, its suppliers, products and competitors, is a real advantage
What's in it for you
You'll join a Commercial team that takes its customers, its suppliers and its category strategy seriously, but doesn't take itself too seriously. You'll have real budget responsibility, the autonomy to shape your category, and the support to grow your career in one of the UK's most established trade businesses.
