Superintendent Radiographer for Quality & Safety

University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279)

The closing date is 05 April 2026

This post plays a key role in supporting safe, high-quality radiology services at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust by strengthening assurance, consistency, and learning across sites. The role sits within a supportive quality and safety team and works alongside clinical services to help ensure that patients receive safe, effective, and compliant imaging care.

The post holder acts as a link between frontline practice and governance systems, helping radiology services to learn from incidents, feedback, and data, and to continuously improve the way care is delivered. The role offers the opportunity to influence service quality at scale, working across a large and varied radiology department.

This is a development opportunity for an experienced radiographer with an interest in quality, safety, and service improvement, offering exposure to Trust-wide governance processes while maintaining clinical credibility. The role is well suited to someone who enjoys collaborative working, problem-solving, and supporting others to deliver safer care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will coordinate and deliver quality, safety, and governance activity within Radiology, supporting safe and effective patient care across University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. Working closely and professionally with clinical teams, the role helps services identify risk, respond to incidents, and embed learning to improve practice.

The post holder will coordinate patient safety investigations, support staff through the process, and ensure actions are completed and learning is shared. The role also supports radiation safety and IR(ME)R compliance, including coordination of radiation incidents and oversight of non-medical referrer processes.

The post holder will contribute to service improvement by supporting audit, risk management, and the handling of patient feedback, complaints, and PALS enquiries. Use of data and trends across sites will help target improvement activity and strengthen assurance.

The role involves working with a wide range of colleagues, including radiographers, radiologists, medical physics, and governance teams, to support consistent and patient-centred care. There is also an opportunity to undertake a limited amount of clinical work, in line with professional registration, competence, and service needs.
