About The Role
What is the role?
As an Operations Assistant, you will support the Plant Management Team and Corporate staff in ensuring the safe, compliant, legal, regulatory, and environmental standards for waste reception, processing, residues management, and handling. This includes mobile plant operations, deputizing for the weighbridge operator as needed, and assisting the Operations and Maintenance teams with daily tasks to ensure the facility operates safely, efficiently, and compliantly. The role involves working on a rotating two-shift pattern, including day shifts, late and early starts, weekends, and public/bank holidays, with standby cover to support 24/7 operation.
What will you be doing?
* Maintain a clear tipping floor, removing obstacles, segregating unacceptable waste for disposal, and ensuring smooth traffic flow.
* Operate waste and ash cranes to manage inputs and maintain bunker profiles.
* Safely operate heavy equipment during daily operations.
* Perform routine maintenance checks on mobile equipment and report malfunctions.
* Maintain high health and safety standards by reporting issues or incorrect procedures to supervisors or management.
* Adhere to all procedures and risk assessments.
* Wear the appropriate PPE/RPE as specified in the risk assessments.
* Provide professional customer service in handling site inputs and outputs.
* Undertake further training to develop new skills as required.
Desirable but not essential qualifications and experience
* GCSEs (Maths and English), NVQ, or over 5 years of relevant industry experience.
* Knowledge of workplace health and safety.
* Understanding of waste regulations, duty of care, transfer notes, etc.
* Experience with mobile plant and relevant licenses (Front Loading Shovel, Fork Lift Truck, mechanical access equipment).
* IT literacy and competence with computer systems.
* Valid UK driving license.
* Recognized safety training such as IOSH.
