As our Driver Team Leader, you’ll play a key role in enabling the safe and efficient transport of vital pipework and materials to and from our operational sites. Leading our day-shift drivers, you’ll ensure that critical supplies reach the teams fixing urgent issues across the region’s water and sewage networks — helping us keep life flowing for millions of customers.
You’ll champion transport safety, improve processes, and inspire your team to deliver outstanding service, every single day. This is your chance to make a real impact at the heart of our logistics operation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure Safety & Compliance: Maintain full compliance with all logistics safety procedures, safe working practices, and legal requirements. Champion a “Safer Every Day” culture by leading audits, reporting near misses, and driving continuous improvement in health & safety.
* SME for Lift Plans. Develop and sign off lift plans for B asic and Intermediate complexity lifts .
* Lead & Manage the Driver Team: Inspire, develop, and support the day-shift drivers to deliver excellent service, maintain wellbeing, and meet performance standards. Handle line management responsibilities, including conduct, performance, and career development.
* Deliver & Support Logistics Operations: Oversee and contribute to the safe and efficient transportation of materials, including completing HGV deliveries during peak periods and emergency weekend cover when required .
* Drive Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to transport processes, safety procedures, and risk assessments. Use feedback and engagement to enable positive change across the logistics operation.
* Train & Develop the Team: Ensure all drivers are fully trained, compliant with mandatory requirements, and confident in safe systems of work. Deliver inductions, training sessions, and practical briefs for both drivers and warehouse staff when needed.
* Champion Safe & Efficient Driving: Promote and improve safe, fuel-efficient driving practices in line with SAFED principles, and ensure use of tracking systems and communication tools to support efficient operations.
What does it take to be a Logist ics Driver Team Leader ?
We’re looking for a safety-focused and adaptable leader with strong communication skills, who can motivate and mentor a team while maintaining high standards. You’ll bring honesty, reliability, and a positive attitude, with the ability to solve problems, drive change, and support others with professionalism and attention to detail.
Experience and skills:
* Class 2 Driving License (C) Essential
* Lift experience (Lift Supervisor or Appointed Person competency)
* Line Management in a Logistics/Operational environment, with examples of safety ownership
* IT competent (Microsoft Office 365 suite)
* Experience with Warehouse Inventory Management and/or Transport Management systems
* Health and safety management qualifications (IOSH, SMSTS) - Desirable
* MHE trained (reach truck / counterbalance / Moffett) - Desirable
* HIAB lift experience, Slinger/ Signaller and/or Lift Supervisor - Desirable
* SAP S/4 Warehouse Management system experience - Desirable
* Class 2 Driving License (C+E) - Desirable
* Completed DQC card CPC – Essential
* A dditional driver vocational training (i.e. ADR) – Desirable
