Posted: 10 December
Offer description

UE07: £41,064- £48,822 per annum

CMVM, School of Genetics and Cancer

Full Time: 35 hours per week

Fixed Term: 36 Months

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly enthusiastic and engaged postdoctoral scientist to join our growing ovarian cancer research team. This is an opportunity to take the lead on the wet laboratory aspects of a new

CRUK-funded research programme investigating the mechanisms of chemoresistance acquisition in ovarian cancer, with a view to identifying therapeutic opportunities to prevent and reverse chemotherapy resistance.

Key aspects of the role include engineering of cellular models to investigate candidate mechanisms of chemoresistance acquisition, phenotypic characterisation of generated models, and implementation of drug screening and other approaches to identifying potential targeted opportunities to overcome therapy resistance.

The position is initially for 3 years, with the extension available for up to two additional years (5 years total).

This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time working patterns, or working in a condensed hours format. We encourage hybrid and flexible working within our team to promote student and staff welfare. The present role comprises a substantial proportion of work that necessitates on-site work (due to the need for laboratory facilities to undertake many of the job aspects), but other elements (e.g. analysis and documentation) are readily amenable to remote working.

The salary for this post is £41,064 to £48,882 per annum, in line with UoE Grade 07.

Your skills and attributes for success:

1. A PhD in cancer research or related biomedical discipline
2. Experience in a range of wet laboratory skills, including disease model engineering
3. A track record of delivering high quality research
4. A keen interest in cancer research that bridges the gap between fundamental science and clinical application
5. Highly organised and motivated; able to work both independently and as part of a research team

Application Information

Please ensure you include the following documents in your application:

- 2-page CV

- A bulletpoint summary of key research outputs (publications: papers, abstracts, pre-prints; other key outputs: developed methods, key resources/tools, other outputs)

- A 1-page cover letter detailing why you are interested in the position, and why you would be a good fit for the role

- 1-2 letters of reference from prior work or study

As a valued member of our team you can expect:

6. To work as a valued member of a research team with a passion for advancing our understanding and treatment of cancer
7. To be part of a diverse and vibrant research team
8. To work in an exciting, positive and rewarding workplace where all team members are treated with respect
9. Support for personal and professional skill development
10. Comprehensive Staff Benefits, such as a generous holiday entitlement, competitive pension schemes, staff discounts, and family-friendly initiatives. Check out the full list on our (opens in a new tab) and use our reward calculator to discover the total value of your pay and benefits
