The Opportunity

This post represents an exciting opportunity to join the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Keele University as a Lecturer in Public History. The post holder would be expected to be available on two days of each working week.

The post holder will teach broadly across History at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as within their own specialist areas. This will include giving lectures, running workshops, facilitating seminars, setting and marking work, and supervising projects. We welcome applications from candidates able to contribute to other programmes in the Schools, for example Digital Media, Criminology, Philosophy, or Sociology. In particular, the post holder will provide students with opportunities to apply their skills and knowledge in public contexts, including through Keele’s established and emerging partnerships with external organisations.

The post holder will have a PhD in History or a cognate discipline and a record of successful education, scholarship, and research in History that involves engaging audiences beyond the academy. This may include publications, events delivered in collaboration with partners, or media work, for example. Their research output and dissemination will meet a standard that enhances and diversifies the research being done at Keele, within a History unit whose research output was sixth nationally in REF 2021. They will be self‑directed and efficient, able to manage their own work, collaborate with colleagues, and take initiatives to achieve positive outcomes in teaching, research, and knowledge exchange with our partners.
