Overview
The provisional job plan is 10 programmed activities (PAs). The contract assumes 8 PAs allocated to direct patient care (6 DCC and 2 nDCC) and 2 SPAs, including teaching and training of junior doctors, CPD, audit, and related activities. Additional PAs can be offered as per service requirements.
Responsibilities
* Ward duties with current coverage on a one in 10 basis; potential changes with reconfiguration of bed base and staffing.
* During ward weeks, consultants will be available for daily ward rounds and in-patient gastroenterology emergencies between 9:00 and 17:00; manage inpatient cross-specialty referrals (approximately 30–35 per week).
* During off-ward weeks (10 PAs), a Gastroenterologist will undertake 4–5 fixed sessions per week (2 clinics and 2–3 endoscopy lists) as per service needs.
* Consultants will not have regular inpatient commitments during off-ward weeks.
* Clinic template typically consists of 4 New patients and 8 Follow-ups in a 4-hour session; diagnostic OGD and sigmoidoscopy are allocated 1 point, while colonoscopy with/without polypectomy is allocated 2.5 points, notionally. Administrative tasks for clinic and endoscopy are allocated in two dedicated admin sessions.

Policies and Compliance
* The Trust views and manages information contained in applications in line with policy; personal details will be transferred into the NHS Electronic Staff Records (ESR) system if offered the post.
* The Trust reserves the right to close vacancies once a minimum number of applications has been reached.
* DBS: The applicant is responsible for DBS costs; costs are recovered via salary deduction following starting in post. DBS Update Service registration is encouraged.
* Apprenticeship eligibility: eligibility is determined by residency rules and assessed case-by-case; UK nationals or those with right of abode typically meet residency requirements if ordinarily resident for at least three years prior to start date.

Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is on the Wirral peninsula, serving a population of around 400,000 with over 6,000 staff and approximately 855 beds. The appointee will have a broad gastroenterology and endoscopy background, with subspecialist skills in Hepatology or IBD. Depending on applications, more than one post may be offered to meet increasing demand. The appointee will be supported by gastroenterology consultants, junior doctors, ward nursing staff, a GI pharmacist, specialist nurses, and dietitians, focusing on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gastroenterological and general internal medicine conditions.
